Mary, the “Virgin in prayer,” models a deep and transformative relationship with God. This is beautifully expressed in the Magnificat (Lk 1:46–55), sung during her visit to Elizabeth. Her prayer rejoices in God’s saving work and reveals her unique place in salvation history. As St. Irenaeus observes, Mary’s song unites Abraham’s joy at the coming Messiah with the prophetic voice of the Church: “My soul magnifies the Lord.”
At the end of her life, Mary is again seen in prayer, gathered with the Apostles (Acts 1:14). Her example invites us to deepen our own lives of prayer and intercession, strengthening our faith and communion with others.
